The minimum unit for trading and order quantity: 1 emissions permit (tCO2-eq)
  • 1 emissions permit is the minimum unit for ordering and trading in the market and equivalent to one ton of tCO2-eq.

    주의The term “one ton of comparable equivalents (tCO2-eq)” means one ton of carbon dioxide or an amount of other greenhouse gases specified in Appendix 2 of the Enforcement Decree of the Act on the Allocation and Trading of Greenhouse Gas Emission Permits, the impact of which on global warming is equivalent to the impact of one ton of carbon dioxide.

Example) In the case of quotation price ranging from KRW 10,000 to less than KRW 50,000, the quotation unit is KRW 50.
➡ Therefore, quotations are made in KRW 10,050, 11,000, 11,150 etc.

Trading period
The trading period for each issue of emissions permits is from the first trading day1) when the commitment period starts to June 30th (the next trading day in the case of a holiday or Saturday) of the year that follows the compliance year concerned.

For the first commitment period, it will be January 12th, 2015 which is the date when the emissions trading market opened.

  • When the reasons for carry-over, borrowing or surrender to the government occur in relation to emissions permits, the quantity of emissions permits that have been listed changes, and the emissions permits listed is delisted at the end of the deadline for surrender to the government.
    • Carrying over to the next compliance year : When the emissions permits have been carried over to the next compliance year after obtaining approval from the competent authority, the emissions permits that have been carried over is combined with the emissions permits of the next compliance year.
    • Borrowing : When the emissions permits have been borrowed from the next compliance year after obtaining approval from a competent authority, the emissions permits that have been borrowed is combined with the emissions permits of the compliance year concerned.
    • Surrender to the Government : The emissions permits that have been surrendered by an allocated company to a competent authority are deducted from the quantity of emissions permits listed for the compliance year concerned.

주의When Year 2015 Vintage has been carried over, the quantity of listed emissions permits for Year 2016 Vintage increases and that of Year 2015 Vintage decreases. On the contrary, in the case of borrowing, the quantity of listed emissions permits for Year 2015 Vintage increases.
